Washington就是一街之隔，到湖边看烟火很方便，所以有一家朋友也到我们家集合一起去湖边。反正近，顺便带着三角架试拍了一些<a href="http://zeal.haliluya.org/gallery/v/cities/seattle/FireworksJuly4th2008/">烟火的照片</a>。</p> <p><img <p>在湖边，我们主要看到的是Kirkland放的烟火，远远得还能看到Seattle和Bellevue那边的。很明显，Seattle那边的要比Kirkland这边的壮观的多，花样也多得多，时间也长。明年可以考虑去那边看看。</p> <p>顺便，贴张去年夏天的某个晚上拍的<a Conference比绝大多数期刊重要。</p> <p>这个帖子会有什么用呢？对于那些新入行的朋友（尤其是Graduate Student) 我想主要有两个：</p> <ul> <li>这些会议应该是发paper的目标。 </li> <li>这些会议是了解并行计算领域研究前沿的最好的地方之一，可以定期关注一下。 </li> </ul> <p>不可否认，即使是Top Conference，里面最后能够被工业界真正重视的paper也是非常有限的。所以，这只能提供一个参考。对于Faculty, Researcher，以及Graduate Students来说，这是游戏规则。</p> <p>闲话少说。因为Multi-Core的兴起，过去只是在HPC领域受关注的并行计算近年成为从工业界到学术界的热点。根据我个人浅见，与并行计算相关的会议不仅仅包括直接Parallel Computing或者Supercomputing方面的会议，还包括Computer Architecture, Language, Application, 以及Distributed Computing等方面的会议。</p> <p>另一个问题是如何鉴别一个会议的好坏，即其影响程度？网上可以找到各种各样的排名。我看到的我认为最合理的是这个<a href="http://libra.msra.cn/conf_category_24.htm">链接</a>（Libra: Conferences)。至于这里排名的准确程度肯定是值得商榷的，仁者见仁，智者见智了。但是这里列的是所有的Computer Science的会议，而不仅仅是我关注的会议。所以我会按顺序把我认为相关的前15名的会议从这个页面里按照顺序挑选出来（名次顺序按照这个页面本来的顺序），但是我不做进一步的领域细分了。（另，现在不再举行的会议就不列入了。不排除我挑错挑漏的可能性）另外，这个页面应该是动态的，目前的顺序是按照当前的数据得出的，是会变化的。</p> <ol> <li><a href="http://www.polynesia.com/">Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC)</a>。按国内类似旅游项目，说白了，就是Polynesia民族村。<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polynesia">Polynesia</a>大概是太平洋中在<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polynesian_triangle">Polynesian Triagnle</a>区域内岛屿的统称。夏威夷就是其中著名的一个岛群。PCC内主要是展示了7个这样的地方，如夏威夷，Fiji, Tahiti, 还有Aotearoa（今天的新西兰）。对Polynesia民族文化感兴趣的人应该是个不错的去处，对于一般游客，这也是一个必去的旅游景点。通常中午左右进去，到了晚上最后大剧场的歌舞结束，一整天都可以耗在这里。</p> <p>我们一早出发，又可怜得要绕一大圈才能到PCC。因为中午到PCC就行，所以我们打算沿途去<a href="http://www.dole-plantation.com/">Dole的植物园</a>转转。这里有2001年吉尼斯世界纪录内记载的最大的<a href="http://www.dole-plantation.com/Maze/maze.aspx">迷宫</a>。这个迷宫由菠萝树以及其他夏威夷常见植被建成。</p> <p><img style="max-width: 800px;" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sujatha_fan/1081497590/">flickr</a>)</i></small></p> <p>我们就是昨天环岛的时候发现这里的，所以今天特点赶来玩一玩。谁让咱童年没过好呢，哈哈。</p> <p>进迷宫的主要任务是去找到八个隐藏在内的点，在每个地方可以收集到一个标志，凑齐了就算完事了。进去之前，愿意的话，可以领一张地图。即使带着地图，我们还在里头转悠了半个小时左右才把八个标志都收齐。再次证明了，我会看地图但是是方向盲，领导有方向感但是不会看地图。不过也还行，好像不比平均水平差。玩得挺高兴的。推荐一下这个地方。旁边Dole的纪念品店也不错，还有很好吃的菠萝冰淇淋。</p> <p>接下来，就奔目的地PCC去了。到了PCC，如<a href="http://zeal.haliluya.org/blog/2008/01/02/hawaii-trip/">前文</a>所说，拿出Entertainment Book里面的coupon，省了40块钱。然后就进民族村了。</p> <p>可能我从小长在多民族环境的云南，我对民族村兴趣不大，对各个民族的风土人情的好奇心也不是很大，还是更喜欢自然景观一点。前面说过Center里面主要有7个Village，每个Village内每隔半个或者一个小时左右都有一个show。如果要我推荐的话，Hawaii的和Tonga的最有意思，尤其是夏威夷的，就是一个特幽默特有亲和力又多才多艺的老头的solo show。他很幽默得展示了夏威夷几个世纪以来的各种各样的乐器。半个小时左右的节目，从头笑到尾之余确实能够一览夏威夷的音乐文化。Tonga那个找游客上来敲鼓的节目也很搞笑，尤其我们那天找上来的三个来自不同国家的三个哥么都非常有表演欲，让人乐不可支啊。</p> <p><img src="http://zeal.haliluya.org/gallery/d/17317-2/Hawaii+018.jpg" height="300" /></p> <p>下午的一个重头戏是PCC中间的小河上的各个民族的歌舞表演。就是7个Village的演员在河上驾着筏陆续出现表演本民族的歌舞。需要早点到河边占据个有利位置坐下，晚去就只能站着看喽。</p> <p>比如这里就是不错的位置：<br /> <img <p>岛上的天气真是莫测，就这节目一个小时不到的功夫，晴转阴，银转雨，雨转晴好几次，:)。</p> <p>PCC还有一个项目是坐车去看附近的一个Temple。我们两个人就上了车，跟着去了，才后知后觉的反应过来是摩门教的Temple。而其实PCC也是摩门教建立的。宗教问题咱就不扯了。</p> <p>晚上的最后一个项目，就是大剧场看Polynesian歌舞了。规模比我们在<a href="http://zeal.haliluya.org/blog/2008/01/13/hawaii-trip-3rd-day/">Maui的Luau</a>上看得要大得多。但是这么多天了，特别是下午刚看了河上的表演，实在是审美疲劳了。我个人感觉，在我看过的民族歌舞舞台表演中，还是属当年在丽江看得<a href="http://www.apenco.com/lsjs/lsjs.htm">丽水金沙</a>最好看，编排的最好，服装最漂亮，音乐最多样，舞台效果也是最好的, 强烈推荐一下。</p> <p>等这个show结束，已经是晚上9点多了，我们又得辛苦折返我们遥远的Hotel, <img
