第一部分：概述

鲍勃·马利只在这个世界上生活了三十六个年头，在他走向国际化、成为一代巨星之后，他只为我们留下了十余张“专辑”——这里的引号是说：为了弄清鲍勃·马利所有作品的性质和分类，还有进一步说明的必要。他的作品数量无法和一些依旧健在的艺术家相比较，但也正因其早逝，他的作品在类别划分上稍显混乱，面对厚厚高高的唱片架，哪些才是不该错过的佳作呢，而哪些又是充数骗钱之选呢？

在参考多方的资料以及几年来的感受和思考，我渐渐明白，区分鲍勃·马利的种种作品其实是一件见仁见智的事情，许多资料站点，以平时的表现来看，他们对于艺术家作品的归类是相当准确详实的，但对于鲍勃·马利则出现了种种差异——当然不包括鲍勃·马利官方的录音室专辑、现场专辑以及单曲作品，这些无论在哪里都是相对一致的。

造成其作品稍显混乱的原因主要有三：

1.鲍勃·马利的艺术生涯分为两个相对不同的阶段：牙买加国内时期（1960年代—1973年）和国际化时期（1974年—1980年）。
2.鲍勃·马利的乐队人员编制的变动：早期作品以哭泣者乐队（The Wailers）的名义发行。在走向国际化之后，他的作品以鲍勃·马利与哭泣者乐队（Bob Marley & The Wailers）的名义发行。
3.层出不穷的各式各样的精选辑与翻唱专辑。

第二部分：伟大的哭泣者乐队

要说明鲍勃·马利的作品，就不得不先说说伟大的哭泣者乐队。为了避免混淆，在这部分用英文标注乐队名称。通常所说的哭泣者乐队是指The Wailers，其它变化的形式还有：The Wailers Band、The Original Wailers等。

The Wailers：The Wailers是一支ska\rocksteady\reggae风格的乐队，成立于1963年的牙买加首都金斯顿市。原始成员有Bob Marley（1963-1974），Junior Braithwaite（1963-1964，和声），Beverley Kelso（1963-1965，和声），Bunny Wailer（1963-1974），Peter Tosh（1963-1974），Cherry Smith（1963-1966，和声）等六人。

乐队最初名为The Teenagers（青少年乐队），The Wailing Rudeboy（哭泣的野孩子乐队），The Wailing Wailers（哭泣的哭泣者乐队），几经变更，最终定名为The Wailers（哭泣者乐队）。Junior Braithwaite，Beverley Kelso，Cherry Smith三人先后离队。从1963年到1966年，乐队一共录制了70多首歌曲，其中20首是原创作品，其余为在ska蓝本上翻唱的美国灵歌及布鲁斯歌曲，这期间队中三位成员相继离队去美国发展。到了1966年，乐队只剩下由Bob Marley，Peter Tosh和Bunny Wailer三人的演唱组。此后， Marley与Rita结婚，Bunny和Tosh先后入狱，哭泣者乐队变得更为松散。这是哭泣者乐队的第一个时期。

这个时候，著名制作人Leslie Kong挽救了哭泣者乐队遭遇的绝境，他未乐队出版了单曲和精选辑，这一缓冲之举使乐队得以存活下来。

在乐队的第二个时期，迎来了一位重要的成员的加入：Lee "Scratch" Perry。乐队这个时期引人注目的作品大都是与Lee "Scratch" Perry及其录音室伴奏乐队The Upsetters合作完成的。在70年代早期，The Upsetters的成员Aston Barrett和Carlton Barrett（即Barrett兄弟）加入了哭泣者的三人演唱组，并为之提供伴奏。乐队以一系列优秀作品迎来了牙买加国内以及国际广泛的声誉，但是不到一年时间，老队员们再次离队寻求个人事业的发展，哭泣者乐队于1974年解散，乐队的第二个时期就此结束。

Lee "Scratch" Perry改变了哭泣者乐队，他带来了更有利的反叛姿态，更明确的Rastafari信仰，更即兴、更灵感、更神秘主义的创作，Marley，Bunny，Perry的三角组合，是哭泣者乐队整个艺术生涯中最为辉煌的阵容。

Bob Marley & The Wailers：1974年，全新的哭泣者乐队更名为Bob Marley & The Wailers——这也是我们最为熟知的。The Wailers作为伴奏乐队继续存在，通常提到的The Wailers Band就是指作为伴奏乐队的哭泣者乐队。Barrett兄弟留队，同时引入新成员：主音吉他手Junior Marvin和Al Anderson，键盘手Tyrone Downie和Earl "Wya" Lindo，打击乐手Alvin "Seeco" Patterson，由Rita Marley，Judy Mowatt，Marcia Griffiths的三人演唱组I Threes负责和声。这套编制一直保持到马利去世。这个时期可以看做哭泣者乐队的第三个时期。

在Marley病逝之后，Marley的好友日本歌手Joe Yamanaka（乔山中）曾经作为主唱与哭泣者乐队合作过5年，直到1986年。这可以看做哭泣者乐队的第四个时期。Joe Yamanaka于2010年因肺癌病故。

The Original Wailers：2008年9月，由哭泣者乐队前成员Al Anderson，Junior Marvin，Junior Marvin成立，并于同年开始了世界巡演——尽管名字和哭泣者相关，但如果从1963年算起，哭泣者乐队的原始成员大多已经不在人世了——Marley于1981年辞世，Tosh于1987年被人谋害，Braithwaite和Smith分别于1999年和2008年去世，Bunny Wailer和Beverley Kelso是世上仅存的两位哭泣者乐队原始成员。

回顾哭泣者乐队几十年来的变化历程，让人感慨万千，Marley的英年早逝和Tosh的意外身亡让喜爱他们的人们痛心不已，如果说痛苦会随着时光流逝而减淡，一种更沉重的感觉击中了我，它是岁月的沧桑，尽管传奇已经写就。Marley的传奇不仅仅是他个人的，更是伟大的哭泣者乐队的，正如乐队名字的含义：哭泣者，那些在牙买加贫民窟中饱尝生活苦痛的哭泣者，这就是传奇的根源。

资源出处一共是十一张，我略掉了《Natural Mystic》，因为这张属于精选辑，而这十张中的《Babylon By Bus》属于现场专辑，其余九张才是鲍勃·马利真正的录音室专辑作品，这九张都是鲍勃·马利走向国际化的正式专辑（区别于他的早年作品）最为重要的作品，如何强调也不为过，通常所说的“全集”就是这九张——也可以把《Babylon By Bus》也算进去。

Jah Shaka has been operating a London-based, roots reggae Jamaican sound system since the early 1970s. His name is an amalgamation of the Rasta term for God and that of a Zulu warrior, Shaka Zulu.

He started out on the Freddie Cloudburst Sound System, before setting up his own sound system. Jah Shaka events are renowned for attracting a wide audience from all backgrounds and races. Shaka believes it to be a testament to the quality of the message that he expounds in his choice of music and his Rastafarian beliefs.

Shaka stayed true to his Rastafarian beliefs during the 1980s when many other Sound Systems had started to follow the Jamaican trend towards playing "slack" dancehall music. His refusal to compromise inspired a host of new UK reggae artists and Sound Systems such as Eastern Sher, The Disciples, Iration Steppas, Jah Warrior, Channel One Sound System, Conscious Sounds, The Rootsman and Abashanti-I. Non-reggae artists such as Basement Jaxx have also cited Jah Shaka as an influence during interviews.

On his own record label he has released music from Jamaican artists such as Max Romeo, Johnny Clarke, Bim Sherman and Prince Alla as well as UK groups such as Aswad and Dread & Fred. He has released a number of dub albums, often under the Commandments of Dub banner.

In 1980 Shaka played himself in the film Babylon (directed by Franco Rosso), operating his Sound System in a soundclash at the climax of the story. In 1989 Shaka visited Jamaica and worked with many musicians there, including King Tubby. In 2000 he suffered numerous injuries during a house fire.

The Jah Shaka Sound System continues to appear regularly in London, with occasional tours of the United States, Europe and Japan. Live footage of Shaka featured in the documentary All Tomorrow's Parties based on the musical festival, which was released in 2009.

Non-musical work

Shaka has also established the Jah Shaka Foundation to carry out assistance with projects in Ghana, where the foundation has bought 7 acres (28,000 m2) of land in Agri, thirty miles outside of Accra. It has also managed to distribute medical supplies, wheelchairs, library books, carpentry tools, drawing materials and records to clinics, schools and radio stations in the Accra area establishing important links with the local communities.

这套合辑同样由特洛伊唱片出品，总数确切有多少我不确定。它的选曲范围在1969年到1980年之间，其中前7辑时间相对紧凑，第8辑一下子就从第7辑的1973年跨越到了1980年。这样划分年代的原因我不得而知。

1969年对于雷鬼乐的历史来说是个具有标记性的年份，在这一年，慢拍摇滚（Rocksteady）演化成了雷鬼乐，确切说是早期雷鬼乐（Early Reggae），早期雷鬼乐持续流行了相当长的时间，直到八十年代到来，雷鬼乐最终定型——在七十年代的时间里，早期雷鬼乐、雷鬼乐、国际化的雷鬼乐这些风格在不同的艺人或者作品中是混杂着共存的，造成这种混杂的原因有许多，比如：音响设备方面的改进和更新、歌手艺人在思想倾向表达内容方面的不同，等等。以歌手为例，马利的作品大多在七十年代，那些日后为世人所熟知的作品大多属于国际化的雷鬼乐，而另外一些牙买加国内的音乐家则不那么“国际化”，他们更加注重根源和乡土气息。但是如果不计较的太仔细，可以认为七十年代的主流是早期雷鬼乐。

音乐风格的发展变化是一个渐变的过程，也许去年的音乐和今年的相比差别不大，但也许和后年的就很是不同，再过上三五年，也许就是大变样儿——因此这套合辑的意义不在于某支歌曲，而是相对完整地为你呈现出早期雷鬼乐的风格特征，从慢拍摇滚脱胎而来，流行甚久甚广，最终定型成为雷鬼乐。
