柏林Mono的日记_东京展

Kai von Rabenau是个让人觉得不可思议的人。自身的专业态度、对摄影的投入、制作杂志、创立服装品牌、平面设计工作室、举办各种活动… … 然而对我和Wei，对香蕉鱼来说最温暖的是他对我们的友好和帮助，他是一个非常热情亲切的人：发来问候的邮件、询问mono.kultur在中国地区的销售情况、担心我们的进货渠道、为香蕉鱼书店实体店做报道，以及对我们制作的第一本摄影书A r i a的喜欢。这一路的相伴让这段远距离的友情，随着我们希望在将来更坚定地做独立出版的梦想，更加难能可贵，如此珍惜。

我们很想能倾听他的故事，想现在就能飞到东京去参加他以及整个mono团队今天在Colorworks Palette的开幕展览和讲座。2012年对Kai和mono的头一件大事就是收到了东京Palette Gallery和Utrecht书店的邀请，将mono工作室自成立以来所做的项目以及创办人Kai个人摄影、平面作品布展陈列。

we will be showing an overview of mono.graphie’s photography practice, showcasing a selection of editorial, fashion and personal work, extracting a palette of colour and atmosphere from daily life; whereas our womenswear imprint mono.gramm will give a sneak peek into its playful light-handed approach to fashion design, and mono.kultur, of course, will display the first 30 issues of our uniquely popular interview format.

移动的Zine图书馆 (Travelling Zine Library)的项目理念类似于移动图书馆活移动书店，移动意味着与人、与物接触，移动代表着传播与推广。在世界范围内的艺术书籍杂志收藏与移动展览正在行动起来。伦敦巴黎两地奔跑的策展人及撰稿人Elias Redstone和他的Archizines就是其中一员，他的收藏品味集中在建筑上(Architure vs Zines)。Archizines.com 上可以比较清晰明了地知道他现在正在做的事情，这个世界到底有多少独立杂志和小册子正在关注建筑呢？建筑的诠释在Archizines中是广义上的，所以我们能看到喜爱的西班牙独立杂志Apartamento也列于其中；巴黎Preston is my Paris出版的同名摄影zine，以报纸的形式出刊也收录在内，去年11月份Archizines伦敦展上共有60种来自不同地区的Architecture Zines展出。

Elias Redstone策展的开放式图书馆(Open Zine Library)在伦敦的空间，以及现在正在米兰的艺术书展空间设计尤其让人印象深刻(图中所示)。如果你此时正在米兰，可以到现场去感受以及欣赏丰富的建筑Zine文化。

位于澳大利亚维多利亚省的Thornbury市的Perimeter Books创办者之一Dan Rule接受采访，关于这家关注小型出版社和艺术家个人作品的书店的创办理念和未来书店发展规划的文章推荐给大家。划线部分为我个人作参考借鉴、喜欢的句子。

Like its name suggests, Perimeter is teetering on the edge, resting on the periphery and enticing lovers of books and the printed form. We spoke to co-owner, Dan Rule, about his recently opened book store in Thornbury.

Occupying a space formerly held by Modern Journal in the somewhat abandoned end of High Street, Perimeter is a beautifully curated shop of rare books and small press. It settled rather circumstantially, filling a gap that still sees the distributer operating from out the back, passing occasionally, as Dan puts it, “a goldmine of books through the separating curtain”.

Yet the majority of design books and small press are personally selected by Dan and his wife Justine before being sat, face out, on simple shelving that decorates the white canvas walls with an explosive hit of colour. Meanwhile, doors turned into contemporary desks displaying uncommon titles and a collection of potted plants that aims to bring warmth and “avoid that austere gallery feel”.

It’s minimal, but charming. Drawing upon a mix of Japanese aesthetics, Perimeter presents itself in a style that is “half architectural, half handmade and contemporary enough to let the books do the talking,” Dan explains. These books arrive from a range of local and international publishers, and include rarities from houses such as NoBrow (London), PostEditions (Rotterdam) and Nieves (Switzerland).

Dan highlights Bad Couples, by LA-based artist Nicola Pecoraro, as a personal favourite, describing it as “small press at its best”. This simple publication endears itself to you with its strikingly awkward and naively painted faces that are now in the hands of Perimeter’s first non-friend customer.

“These books would get lost in a mainstream bookstore,” Dan notes, speaking about what could almost be viewed as his personal library. I am informed of the visual and tactile beauty in each and every publication as he delicately turns the crisp pages, identifying the varying stocks and stitched bindings in a way that naturally hints at his other business venture: a small publishing company called And Collective, who publish the Erm Books imprint, which he runs with wife, Justine, and friend and illustrator, Marc Martin.

“We really believe in this form of design,” says Dan, backing up their self-confessed obsession with publishing, which leads nicely into their planned in-store exhibition space that will promote artists with a relationship to the printed form. Coming up we can expect to see temporary shows from talents such as Marc Martin, Unchalee Anantawat, Louis Porter, Oliver Mann and Oslo Davies. For now, close friend and photographer Michelle Tran graces the behind-the-counter wall space with her prominent tableau-style photos.

So what else can we expect from Perimeter? “We’d like to become almost like an inspirational hub: a place where people can gather, meet and enjoy this space,” Dan says.

It’s hard not to be humbled by his passion for the printed form. There’s no doubt that Dan has a distinct knack for selecting and curating books which, paired with his openness to discovering new artists and publications, will no doubt fuel the future direction for Perimeter and decorate many-a Melbourne coffee table with something just a bit more special and unique.

下北沢世代「ART BOOK PROJECT」

據統計，光是美國境內一地，至少就有超過兩萬份的zine，以郵購方式進行流通，而像英國、瑞士、法國、德國甚至澳洲也都有很紮實的zine文化基礎。有感於台灣以往比較缺乏相關資訊來引進介紹，因此下北沢世代書店特地與今藝術雜誌，共同舉辦了「ART BOOK PROJECT」的線上徵選活動，公開對外募集zine的創作。讓鮮少接觸zine的人可以瞭解認識，並進一步實際參與zine的活動。

這次徵件不乏從美國、英國、德國、香港等地募集而來的zine作品，就連台灣也有遠自澎湖離島來的投件，參與者包括藝術家、美術老師、學生與品牌設計師等形形色色的創作者，實在是大出我們預期之外。2012年新改版的今藝術「ARTickle」將就入選的五位創作者及作品進行專題介紹。

Nieves出版人Benjamin的第一本书！在为他人出版了十年的书后，他终于为自己出了一本关于这个黑色小人的插画故事集。

On little Ghost Knigi’s birthnight he receives a book from his Aunt Abel.

When she hands it to him all she says is, ‘I hope you enjoy reading this!’

Knigi is quite young, but still at an age when human children normally learn to read. And it’s the same for ghost children. ‘But something is wrong’, Knigi worries. The book is absolutely white – every page, from cover to cover. Knigi is forced to embark on a journey to find out how to read.

Ghost Knigi is the first book drawn and written by Benjamin

Sommerhalder and published in a first edition by Nieves in Zurich.

都柏林艺术书展

都柏林艺术书展将于12月2日－4日在都柏林TBG+S展览馆举办。为了促进艺术书摄影书及独立出版在都柏林的发展， TBG+S举办此次活动希望能给都柏林的读者展示近几年来本地区的出版盛况。展览邀请了来自爱尔兰和世界其他地区20多个出版社参与其中。

TBG+S also invites artists to submit their books and publications to be distributed at the fair. Artists who make books, artists who have self published books and catalogues will be given the space at the fair to distribute their work. This is a unique opportunity to purchase rare publications by Irish artists which may not be available anywhere else.

[新书推荐]：It’s Nice That No.7

创意设计网站Its Nice That近日公布了它的第七期杂志的内页图。在他们看来，本期杂志应该算是ITS NICE THAT 创刊以来的最大的改版，新的平面设计指导 Ray O’Meara 的上任，给杂志带来了更加简单干净的排版和图文搭配。（“which we hope will make it easier for viewers to view and readers to read. It’s a simple concept, but one we firmly believe in.”）

第七期的ITS NICE THAT成了我最期待看到的杂志。杂志编辑团队了走访了位于伦敦的最为活跃的三个独立印刷工作坊（independent publishing houses）：– Book Works, Four Corners, Nobrow and Landfill，探视他们的工作环境。

让人等不及想翻开的是杂志对Nieves主编Benjamin Sommerhalder的采访，倒不是对他的100+zine的关注，而是他自去年起将nieves zines转变成app的项目。未来的出版趋势，Benjamin的行动告诉我们，不管是传统出版或是独立出版，都将是the co-existence of printed and digital content (传统纸媒与数字出版的共存)。同参与此话题的还有 i-D杂志的创办者Terry Jones。

杂志还采访到了多位平面设计师、摄影师、艺术家。纽约摄影师 Taryn Simon告诉读者生活该如何生活；阿姆斯特丹创意组合Lernert & Sander与大家讨论幽默和淘气在工作中的意义。

香蕉鱼书店的好朋友柏林MOTTO Distribution将会在日本东京独立书店Utrecht空间布展一个临时书店，售卖来自欧洲各地小出版社的出版作品。那段时间正好在东京的你可以去走访一下。

motto是欧洲独立出版刊物的最大发行商／Utrecht是东京最大的独立刊物书店，它也是东京艺术书展zines’ mate的主办方。
