voa 标准英语的RSS

之前写过用podcast学英语，有网友留言问，voa标准语速的英语到那里下载。其实网络上这样的资料很多，找的人也多，于是生出来好多自作聪明的想借此赚钱的网站，把大家搞的眼花缭乱的找不到正主，今天我就说说voa的几个最原始的来源。
第一个、http://www.voanews.com/，很长时间以来，它不能访问，不过最近一直正常，不能访问的时候，我在告诉你不能访问时的办法。

先看一段介绍：

The Voice of America, which first went on the air in 1942, is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. Government through the Broadcasting Board of Governors. VOA broadcasts more than 1,250 hours of news, information, educational, and cultural programming every week to an estimated worldwide audience of 134 million people.

我尝试翻译如下：

美国之音，1942年开播，由美国政府通过广播委员会资助的一项多媒体国际广播服务。美国之音每周广播超过1250小时，包括新闻、信息、教育方面和文化方面，估计全世界大约有13.4亿的听众。

大名鼎鼎的VOA慢速英语，也就是voa special english就是其中的一项，地址是http://www.voanews.com/specialenglish/。而voa标准英语，也就是voa主页上的一些内容了。本文下面所附的标准听力原文和听力材料都来自这个网站。
这个网站提供很多方式学习英语，当然也包括我说的podcast方式，具体的很多功能，各位自己挖掘吧。推荐采用feed订阅的方式，这样很方便。但是整站不提供feed，每个分类提供，具体的操作方式还是各位自己琢磨吧。我的firefox最近总是cpu占用率百分之九十多，不知道怎么了。我现在打一个字都费劲。

In a remarkable show of party unity, Obama’s one-time opponent, Senator Hillary Clinton, asked delegates here at the convention to suspend a roll call vote of individual states.

“With eyes firmly fixed on the future, in the spirit of unity, with the goal of victory, with faith in our party and our country, let’s declare together in one voice right here right now, that Barack Obama is our candidate and he will be our president,” said Senator Clinton.

That led to roars of approval inside the packed convention hall, and Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi called for the historic vote.

Pelosi: “All in favor to the motion to suspend the rules and nominate by acclamation Barack Obama as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate please say aye.

Delegates: Aye

Pelosi: All those opposed please say no. Two-thirds of the delegates having voted in the affirmative, the motion is adopted.”

Delegates then launched a celebration, dancing back and forth in the convention hall to the song “Love Train.”

The nomination sets the 47-year-old Obama, the Hawaiian-born son of an American mother and father from Kenya, on a path to face Republican Senator John McCain in the November election for president.

Convention delegates also formally nominated Obama’s pick for vice-president, Delaware Senator Joe Biden.

Then Obama capped off his historic night by making an unscheduled appearance at the convention, bringing a roar of approval from the delegates.

On Thursday, the Democrat’s choice for president will accept the nomination at a nearby sports stadium, before at least 75,000 people.

“So we want to open up this convention to make sure that everybody who wants to come can join in the party and join in the effort to take America back,” said Senator Obama.

翻译中的句子和词

我的英语真差，因为要直译，很多句子组织不起来，不过还遇到一些值得研究的句子，留此存照，待他日有空研究。

原文1：

In co-current flow it is impossible to heat the product to a temperature higher than that which would be obtained if the product and the heating medium were mixed

我的翻译，我认为，这里的if，应该译作即使，而不应该翻译成如果。这似乎是一个虚拟语气的句子。我翻译的如下。

在同相流动中，即使将产品和加热介质混合，将产品加热到高于获得的温度是不可能的。

原文2

The gap is maintained against the pressure of the feed by a counter fouce from either an adjustable heavy-duty spring, torsion bar, hydraulic actuator or simple screw mechanism, the latter being the least favoured as it will not compensate for change in feed or temperature.

其实这个句子不难，只是和别人产生两种意见。我认为，这是一个by引导的被动句，是by后面的力维护gap，抵抗pressure。别人认为是通过pressure来维护gap。我翻译如下。

缝隙被来自可调整的高容量弹簧、扭动扳手、液压传动器或者简单机械螺母的相反的力来维持(机械螺母很少有帮助，因为进料或者温度的改变时,它不能进行调整补偿)，以抵抗进料的压力。

这里，counter这个词在我第一次翻译的时候弄错了，我想当然的认为它是count的形容词意思为可计算的，其实不是，详细学习如下：
counter，可以作为名词，动词，形容词和副词。各司其职，各有不同的意思。

词义来自现代英汉综合大辞典，需要注意的是，这个词和count样子类似，可一点关系都没有。呵呵。

好了，今天就整理这些，已经凌晨了。明天还有很多事要做。

VEGETA 蔬菜

最近看以前的翻译，发现了一个非常有意思的地方，有句英文是：
Factors influencing the effect on vegetative microorganisms，是个标题，我居然给翻译成，影响无性繁殖微生物的因素，哈哈，有趣吧，我坐在这里想了半天，终于想起来我当时是怎么想的：vegetative当时查的字典没有查到营养这个意思，而且后文还写了微生物繁殖方面的文字，所以我就大胆而又自作主张的译成无性，哈哈，植物嘛，大概有无性的意思，记得后来问某个同事，他还认同呢。现在想来真是有意思，为了这个，查了一些资料，发现原来植物也有性生活，而且，vegetable这个词，还真有无性的意思。哈哈。下面整理一下vegeta，蔬菜这个词。

1、VEGETA 蔬菜，单独拿出来是蔬菜的意思，但同时，它又作为植物、营养等意思的字根，具体如下。
2、vegetable，来自拉丁语vegetabilis，当名词时，一个是蔬菜、植物，一个是比喻生活单调的人，植物人；当形容词时，是植物性的，来自植物的，关于植物的，蔬菜的，生活呆板的，当副词用时，只有一个意思，单调呆板地。

3、vegetation，名词，有植物的统称和单调贫乏的生活的意思，在植物学上，它的意思是生长、发育，也有植被，草木的意思，在医学上和生物学上，有增殖体、群落的意思。
4、vegetative，形容词，有关植物生长的，植物的，有生长力的，会生长的，有生长能力的，无性繁殖的，营养的，比喻生活呆板单调的，无所作为的。
5、vegetatively，副词，意思和上面一模一样。
6、vegetativeness，名词，除了具有上面形容词的意思外，还有离群索居的意思。

翻译的教训

很久以前的乳品百科全书，到今天又重来一次。真是愁啊愁，愁白了少年头。
废话不说，说说教训。
1、如果你想做一个糟糕的文章译者，发现翻译错误的地方要及时更改
发现问题，及时纠正，嗯，这符合常理，但是如果你翻译很多文字的时候，当你发现翻译错误的地方，或者感觉不对的地方，一定要按捺住激动的心情，或者羞愧无比的心情，不要更改，标记出来，通盘考虑后，在做修改也不迟。所以如果你想做一个优秀的文章译者，发现翻译错误的地方一定不要急着更改。因为对于那个词的翻译，恐怕是有些原因的。
2、你以为你是傅雷？
傅雷是大翻译家，译著以传神见长。翻译学术文章的时候你可别把傅雷这一套拿过来，当然，如果你是主译，或者唯一译者另当别论。你要老老实实的按照原文翻译出来，虽然生硬，但是谁都看得懂，至少你要先有一个直译的原稿，然后在原稿上增色也可以，千万不要自己擅自添加风格化文字。这样的文字，碰到你的主译，嗯，痛苦去吧。
3、争论无益
翻译好坏，没有标准。只要你没有翻译错。所以，翻译的时候很容易争论，尤其像我一样，喜欢较真的人来说，一种译法，如果别人说好，就算好吧，谁让你英语水平不是最高？
4、重来
翻译久了，尤其是赶工作量的时候，经常会漏译一些词，尤其是形容词。因此，翻译后，一定要原文逐字逐句的对照一遍。我写好的东西自己很懒得看，这个习惯极其不好。重读是一个学习的过程，是提高翻译技巧的重要阶段。因此，不可忽视，对译文的勘校也非常有用，切记切记！

以前我曾经写过翻译外文学术资料时需要注意的字词句放到这里，便于学习和参考。

功夫熊猫中的有意义的台词

同样一个东西，一件事。如果有人说好，就肯定有人说不好，有人喜欢，也会有人不喜欢。在这个世界上，这才是正常现象。我喜欢看功夫熊猫，但是我也理解不喜欢看功夫熊猫的人。那些说功夫熊猫是丑化中国人的说法我也不置可否。不过我很高兴听到这样的声音，有，总比没有强，不痛快就可以说出来，这是自由。熊猫人赵艺术家半狄先生大概有自己的思考，没什么，表达一下也很正常。我喜欢，还因为搞笑之余，还有点东西引起你的思考。还是让我们边学英文边思考吧。

最近做很多事，其实只是一件事，为了生活，为了自己的价值。

我非常喜欢《肖申克的救赎》，每当我郁闷的时候，每当我精疲力尽的时候。看完整个故事，全身就会再次充满力量，我的所有希望就又热烈的燃烧起来。像天际烘托初升太阳的彩云。

Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies./希望是美好的，也许是人间至善，而美好的事物永不消逝

It takes a strong man to save himself, and a great man to save another./坚强的人只能救赎自己，伟大的人才能拯救他人

爱尔兰发起儿童减肥运动

最新一项调查表明，在爱尔兰，大约2/3的孩子达不到推荐的运动量。这项调查由健康促进和食品安全大臣，玛丽.华莱士发起，由北爱的健康服务执委会，食品安全和健康促进协会执行。
Two-thirds of Irish children are not getting the recommended amount of daily physical activity, according to new research published today. The research, undertaken by the Health Service Executive, safefood and the Health Promotion Agency in Northern Ireland, was unveiled at the launch of a major campaign by Minister for Health Promotion and Food Safety Mary Wallace aimed at tackling the problem of obesity in Ireland.
