The Voice of America, which first went on the air in 1942, is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. Government through the Broadcasting Board of Governors. VOA broadcasts more than 1,250 hours of news, information, educational, and cultural programming every week to an estimated worldwide audience of 134 million people.

Sen. Barack Obama walks on stage during the Democratic National Convention in Denver, 27 Aug. 2008
In a remarkable show of party unity, Obama’s one-time opponent, Senator Hillary Clinton, asked delegates here at the convention to suspend a roll call vote of individual states.

“With eyes firmly fixed on the future, in the spirit of unity, with the goal of victory, with faith in our party and our country, let’s declare together in one voice right here right now, that Barack Obama is our candidate and he will be our president,” said Senator Clinton.

That led to roars of approval inside the packed convention hall, and Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi called for the historic vote.

Pelosi: “All in favor to the motion to suspend the rules and nominate by acclamation Barack Obama as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate please say aye.

Delegates: Aye

Pelosi: All those opposed please say no. Two-thirds of the delegates having voted in the affirmative, the motion is adopted.”

Delegates then launched a celebration, dancing back and forth in the convention hall to the song “Love Train.”

The nomination sets the 47-year-old Obama, the Hawaiian-born son of an American mother and father from Kenya, on a path to face Republican Senator John McCain in the November election for president.

Former President Bill Clinton addresses the crowd as he takes the stage during the Democratic National Convention in Denver, 27 Aug 2008
Later, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, who spent months on the campaign trail questioning Obama’s qualifications for the presidency, pledged to strongly support the nominee.

“Barack Obama is ready to honor the oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,” said teh former president. “Barack Obama is ready to be president of the United States.”

Convention delegates also formally nominated Obama’s pick for vice-president, Delaware Senator Joe Biden.

Biden, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, slammed the Republican’s foreign policy, calling it catastrophic.

Sen. Barack Obama, (r), and Democratic VP candidate, Sen. Joe Biden at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, 27 Aug 2008
“I have been on the ground in Georgia, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan and I can tell you in no uncertain terms, this administration’s policy has been an abysmal failure,” said Senator Biden. “America cannot afford four more years of this failure.”

Then Obama capped off his historic night by making an unscheduled appearance at the convention, bringing a roar of approval from the delegates.

On Thursday, the Democrat’s choice for president will accept the nomination at a nearby sports stadium, before at least 75,000 people.

“So we want to open up this convention to make sure that everybody who wants to come can join in the party and join in the effort to take America back,” said Senator Obama.

Obama’s nomination marks an extraordinary rise in American politics and the culmination of what analysts say was a disciplined and brilliant ca

<itunes:duration>3:18</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>英语学习</itunes:keywords><itunes:author>kingyutang@gmail.com</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:block>No</itunes:block>

<fs:srclink>http://www.wangyutang.com/2008/08/how-to-find-voa-standard-englishs-original-text-and-its-feeds/</fs:srclink><fs:srcfeed>http://www.wangyutang.com/category/english-study/feed</fs:srcfeed><fs:itemid>feedsky/EnglishStudy/~6979251/110498546/5087164</fs:itemid>

In co-current flow it is impossible to heat the product to a temperature higher than that which would be obtained if the product and the heating medium were mixed

The gap is maintained against the pressure of the feed by a counter fouce from either an adjustable heavy-duty spring, torsion bar, hydraulic actuator or simple screw mechanism, the latter being the least favoured as it will not compensate for change in feed or temperature.

(against) counter with surprise sallies against the besiegers

adj.

adv.

<fs:srclink>http://www.wangyutang.com/2008/08/some-sentences/</fs:srclink><fs:srcfeed>http://www.wangyutang.com/category/english-study/feed</fs:srcfeed><fs:itemid>feedsky/EnglishStudy/~6979251/109639283/5087164</fs:itemid>

5、vegetatively，

<fs:srclink>http://www.wangyutang.com/2008/08/veget/</fs:srclink><fs:srcfeed>http://www.wangyutang.com/category/english-study/feed</fs:srcfeed><fs:itemid>feedsky/EnglishStudy/~6979251/109639284/5087164</fs:itemid>

I do it for you
Look into your heart
You will find
There is nothing there to hide
Take me as I am
Take my life
I would give it all, I would sacrifice
Don’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for
I can’t help it, there’s nothing I want more
You know it’s true
Everything I do
I do it for you
There is no love
Like your love
And no other could give me more
There’s nowhere, unless you’re there
All the time
All the way, yeah yeah
Oh oh oh oh (Everything I Do)

You can’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for
Just can’t help it, there’s nothing in the world I want more
I would fight for you, I’d die for you
Walk the wire for you
Yeah I’d die for you
You know it’s true
Everything I do
I do it for you

There are no accidents./

Your mind is like this water, my friend , when it is agitated ,it becomes difficult to see ,but if you allow it to settle , the answer becomes clear./

There is a saying,Yesterday is historyTomorrow is a mystery. But today is a gift. That is why it’s called the present . /

Wugui:　Yes ，look at this tree Chivu（师傅）. I can not make it boloosm and suits me ,nor make it bear food before it’s time .

Chivu:but there are things we can control. I can control when the fruit will fall… And I can control
What time to seed. That is not illusion , Master.

Wugui: Yes, but no matter what you do,That seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an Apple or an orange.　But you will get a peach

Chivu:　But peache can not defeate Tai Long

Wugui:　Maybe it can if you are willing to guide it , to nuture it , to believe in it .

I’m sorry things didn’t work out …It’s just what it’s meant to bePaul ,forget everything else ,your destiny still awaits. We are Noodle folk. Broth runs deep through our veins

The secret ingredient of my secret ingredient soup is…nothing. To make something special ,you just have to believe it’s special. /

Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies./

It takes a strong man to save himself, and a great man to save another./坚强的人只能救赎自己，伟大的人才能拯救他人

Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free. A strong man can save himself. A great man can save another./懦怯囚禁人的灵魂，希望可以感受自由。

I guess it comes down to a simple choice:get busy living or get busy dying./

Some birds aren’t meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are just too bright… /

These walls are kind of funny like that. First you hate them, then you get used to them. Enough time passed, get so you depend on them.

Two-thirds of Irish children are not getting the recommended amount of daily physical activity, according to new research published today. The research, undertaken by the Health Service Executive, safefood and the Health Promotion Agency in Northern Ireland, was unveiled at the launch of a major campaign by Minister for Health Promotion and Food Safety Mary Wallace aimed at tackling the problem of obesity in Ireland.
Entitled Little Steps Go a Long Way, the campaign is a major awareness initiative - involving television, radio advertising and a website - designed to show that small changes to physical activity and food habits can have a big impact on health.
Described as a “one of the most serious public health challenges” by the World Health Organization, the problem of obesity is at epidemic proportions among adults and children across the island of Ireland and looks set to continue growing at a rate of 1 per cent every year.
Today’s research shows 11 per cent of children aged 5 to 12 years are overweight and 11 per cent are obese. More than half of parents find it a struggle to get their children to eat healthily.
Director of Human Health and Nutrition at safefood Dr Cliodhna Foley Nolan said children’s eating habits mirror those of their parents and children of normal-weight parents are more likely to have a healthy weight.

“The report of the obesity taskforce identified childhood obesity as a key threat to the future health of people on the island of Ireland. I welcome this campaign, which through concerted action aims to tackle this important issue,” she said.

<fs:srclink>http://www.wangyutang.com/2008/06/news-about-obesity-recentl/</fs:srclink><fs:srcfeed>http://www.wangyutang.com/category/english-study/feed</fs:srcfeed><fs:itemid>feedsky/EnglishStudy/~6979251/109639291/5087164</fs:itemid>
