Earthquake in China: Latest News, How Employees Can Lend Aid

The toll of the dead and missing soared as

rescue workers dug through flattened schools and homes on Tuesday in a desperate attempt to find survivors of China’s worst earthquake in three decades.

The official Xinhua News Agency said the death toll exceeded 12,000 in Sichuan province alone, and 18,645 were still buried in debris in the city of Mianyang, near the epicenter of Monday’s massive, 7.9-magnitude quake. The number of casualties was expected to rise due to the remoteness of the areas affected by the quake and difficulty in finding buried victims.

Microsoft Visual Programming Language (VPL) is an application development environment designed on a graphical data-flow-based programming model rather than control flow typically found in conventional programming. Rather than series of imperative commands sequentially executed, a data-flow program is more like a series of workers on an assembly line, who do their assigned task as the materials arrive. As a result VPL is well suited to programming a variety of concurrent or distributed processing scenarios.

Overview

The goal of the Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 is to supply a software platform for the robotics community that can be used across a wide variety of hardware, applicable to a wide audience of users, and development of a wide variety of applications. As a platform, our intent is also to enable third parties to supply support for new hardware, technologies, and tools, just as Microsoft Windows provides a platform for others to bring their products and technologies to the community of PC users. So while we may populate our platform with some of our own contributions, those should not be considered exclusive to tools or libraries provided by other parties looking to provide interesting technologies for this platform.
